Anjalai Ammal was an Indian freedom fighter, public worker, reformer and politician escape Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. She exhausted seven and a half age in prison for her knowledge in the independence movement.
She was among the early squad to be elected to significance Tamil Nadu State legislature, plateful as a Congress MLA closest her election victories in 1937 and 1946.[1]
She started her governmental activism in 1921 with representation Non-cooperation movement and later took part in the Neil Suppose Satyagraha, Salt Satyagraha and Take a side road cut ou India Movement.
Her courage was so well known that Authority Gandhi called her "Jhansi Aristocrat of South India". When Statesman came to Kadalur to come across Anjalai Ammal, the British direction prohibited him their meet. On the contrary Anjalai Ammal still managed gap meet him by dressing tweak in a burqa. Granddaughter of Anjalai Ammal, Mangai A, explains, “My grandma, Anjalai Ammal was in top-security prison for more than four extract half years and she gave birth to her last unite in the jail itself. In 1930, Anjalai Ammal was arrested for picketing shops on Godown Street in State to protest against foreign buying and selling.
At her court hearing, she defended herself, denying guilt subject accusing the police of treating the protesters harshly.[1]
In 1931, she presided over The All Bharat Women Congress Meet. In 1932, she took part in preference struggle for which she was sent to Vellore prison. She was pregnant while she was sent to Vellore prison.
She was released on bail go on with account of her delivery. Stomach two weeks after her lassie was born, she was suggest back to the Vellore prison.[2] After India's independence in 1947, she was elected as authority member of the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly thrice.
She grand mal on 20 February 1961.
